Stan Tucker on the Future of Black History

It has been a pleasure sharing these blog posts with you this month! I am always humbled and inspired this time of the year when we reflect on the accomplishments of so many great African Americans. I am so grateful for the ones before me that stood up and in some cases, sat down, for equality and justice for us all.

In one of my earlier post about Willie Mays, I talked about how he and others paved a way for other African Americans to have an opportunity to play in the Major League. I am thankful for the many that sacrificed and laid their lives down for me to have the opportunities that I have today. So I will always push to be the best version of myself and make the most out of the opportunities I have been given.

When I think about my nonprofit, Leap For Literacy. I know I have an awesome opportunity to make the sacrifices that so many African Americans made, not to be in vain! When I think about the time in our history when there were anti-literacy laws against African Americans prohibiting them to learn how to read and write. With Leap For Literacy, I’m now encouraging kids to read and write. I think back in our history when schools were segregated to separate black and white students. When black and white students step on board my Read’n Roll bookmobile, I get a feeling of gratefulness that I can’t put into words.

I will continue to make the most out of the opportunities that I’ve been given by the sacrifices of so many and I hope that you all will do the same.
