Stories with Stan - My Pet Book
I hope this email finds you all doing well! Let’s continue to bring our families together during this time with literacy! One camper's family told us that they have been reading through the Harry Potter series together; one person will read out loud while the rest of the family listens and works on a puzzle together. Please share with us how your family is using literacy to have fun right now and I hope that you’re enjoying Stories with Stan!
Do you remember your very first pet? Were you excited to name him or her? In this episode, we will travel to smarty town and read about a boy who wanted a pet that was easy. He didn’t want a dog or cat; This young boy wanted a book as a pet! Maybe after reading this story, you too will adopt a pet book. Enjoy!
Activity 4: Share Your Story
We all have a story and your story needs to be told! You never know how your story will impact someone’s life. That impact comes in many different shapes and sizes. Your story could inspire, educate, heal, and so much more. Next week, I’ll be sharing my story, on Stories with Stan! Until then, I want you to write your own story. There are no guidelines for the story, be creative. Write about your favorite super hero, a fun experience you had, your best friend etc. You don’t need any illustrations yet (that’s the final step) Let’s just focus on the writing process.
How do you write a story?
Reading Eggspress provides a step by step guide on how to write your own story:
Think of an idea - You can inspire your kids to think of great ideas by reading other books and asking them how they think the story will end. They could also base their stories off of things thay have experienced.
Create a character and a setting - Let their imaginations run wild as they decide on a person and place.
The beginning - set the opening scene, what will be special here?
The conflict - explain to your kids how conflicts arose in other stories that they enjoy.
The turning point - This is generally the middle of the story, when your main character discovers something!
The resolution - How does the conflict get resolved?
The end - What happens after the conflict is resolved? Was there a lesson learned?
When you finish your stories, please send them my way! I’d love to read them, it may even be a feature on Stories with Stan one day! I can't wait to hear about your family's experiences reading books and writing stories.
