Activities with Amber - Lettering!
Hi families!
I hope everyone enjoyed the shading tutorial as much as I did! Shading is a basic skill that you can practice to take your art work from beginner to Picasso! This week, I am going to be teaching you something that is one of my favorites: lettering! This is one of my favorite kinds of art because it is so useful and has given me the ability to decorate cards, home decor, and even gave me the opportunity to write my brother’s wedding invitations!
Two kinds of lettering I will be teaching is basic calligraphy and block letters. Both of these can be taken to the next level with some shading, so I will be giving a little tutorial with that also. Below are some easy instructions for how to start practicing using block letters and calligraphy.
BLOCK LETTERS
Start by LIGHTLY writing a word in stick letters, with two pinkie spaces in between each letter
Trace around the stick letters, turning them into block letters.
Erase the inside stick letters. Wah Lah! Block letters!
For a little difficult- try making them 3D! Here is a picture that can help :)
CALLIGRAPHY
You can use cursive or regular letters!
Start by writing your name spaced out and then connect the legs of each letter to the letter following it.
Make the mark THICKER on the DOWN stroke of the letter.
I hope with this new skill, all of your young artists will feel comfortable adding some decoration to their folders, art work and maybe even cards for family members. Remember that practice makes perfect and not to give up!
Have a great day & I will see you all soon!
