Moving in the Morning with Coach Caleb - A Curious Mind

The curious mind is constantly alert and exploring, seeking material for thought, as a vigorous and healthy body is on the qui vive for nutriment. Eagerness for experience, for new and varied contacts, is found where wonder is found. Such curiosity is the only sure guarantee of the acquisition of the primary facts upon which inference must base itself.
— John Dewey, How We Think

Thought of the Day:

Our minds were born with curiosity.  We were birthed wide eyed and saw everything in amazement.  Every person, thing, and experience was new and exciting and we just wanted to see more. As we became older we were able to compare and judge our experiences.  This discernment, while can be a good thing, led to us narrowing our eyes and being less curious and more critical.  We find the news things we see and judge it based off of things we already know.  The more we come to know the less we are able to be curious.

Try this.  Close your eyes.  Imagine that you have only ever seen the world in shades of grey.  You have never seen color before.  Every moment every instant up to this point of your life has just been grey.  Now slowly open your eyes and notice color around your environment?  What shades of colors do you see?  How many different shades of greens/blues/yellows/reds are there?   Is there anything that has all the colors of the rainbow?

Many times those who are resistant to exercise are using some comparison from the past to hold them back about being curious about exercise.  Exercise is something we were born curious about.  It was in the form of play.  We would jump, run, laugh, wrestle, and go all day.  Can you be curious about the play we are about to do?  Are you too goal driven to enjoy it?  Be curious when there is pain, do not resist it.  Be curious about how far and how far you can push.  Enjoy the newness of the day.

Movement to Practice:

The Cartwheel

Look over your right shoulder.  Start by rocking forward and placing your right hand on the ground.  Using your momentum, push off your right hand to your left and swing your feet over your body. Land left foot than right foot.
