Stories with Stan Live - Kindness Counts

Hello! My name is Stan Tucker and I’m the Outreach Director here at CSG. As you may know, I started my own non-profit in August of 2015 that promotes the importance of literacy and being kind to one another at elementary schools in Atlanta and surrounding counties. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to promote my passion with what we do here at camp. So this virtual series will be used to promote literacy and kindness! Today, on my Zoom class, I’m going to share with you the book called “Kindness Counts” written by Bryan Smith. It’s about a boy named Cade, who learns what a random act of kindness really is. Do you know what a random act of kindness is? If not, let’s learn with Cade what they really are!

Every time I read this story, I get inspired to come up with a random act of kindness that could make someone’s day! Don’t forget what we learned from the story; That a true random act of kindness is when you do it without expecting anything in return or any recognition.

Kindness Challenge

I use kindness boxes with the elementary schools I work with to promote acts of kindness during the school day (pictured below). If you attended camp last summer, you know about my kindness box. If you remember, each morning after we raised the flag, I gave you an inspirational message and I challenged you to do at least one act of kindness that day. When you completed it, I asked that you write it down and put it in our kindness box! I want to start our own virtual Camp Kindness box! While we are under quarantine we will have to be very creative and safe when completing our acts of kindness. Your goal is to complete one act of kindness per day and send your favorite act of kindness to me through our website/email. Each week I’ll read a few of these acts of kindness during the live broad cast! One last thing, each week I’ll have a special kindness challenge for you to complete as well! Our first challenge is to do a random of kindness for a stranger. Be thoughtful and creative and I can’t wait to hear about all these acts of kindness!

Make your own Kindness box

To save your acts of kindness, for your own memory, create a kindness box for your family to use at home! Look around your house and see what you have that you could turn into your own kindness box. You could use a cereal box, a tissue box, a tin can, a mason jar, the list goes on, so have fun with it and send me pictures of your beautiful creations!
