Story of Hope: Rachel

Rachel came to Camp Southern Ground for a wonderful summer experience. She did not expect it to change her life. Rachel has a balance disorder, and because of this challenge, she had never learned how to ride a bike. Riding a bike can be a true rite of passage for kids. It reinforces a child’s sense of independence, perseverance and accomplishment, in addition to allowing them to connect with peers. With a little help from our supportive staff, Rachel was able to take the time she needed to learn how to ride her bike using creative thinking skills and her determination. In addition, she had an entire tribe cheering for her along the way! Everyone, staff and campers alike, were so excited for Rachel as she overcame this challenge and now enjoys the fun and freedom that comes with riding a bike. Ride on, Rachel!
